Compassion Unleashed: Mumbai’s Bambai Nazariya Transforms Café Culture with a Touch of Understanding

In the heart of the bustling Lokhandwala neighborhood in Andheri, Bambai Nazariya stands out as a beacon of inclusivity and acceptance. The café, operational for over a year, has been making waves by employing individuals from marginalized communities, including transgender persons and those with disabilities.

Piyu and Soniya both are employee’s since the café’s inception, shares their transformative experience, stating, “Life was very different for me before working at the café. Either people only called us to give blessings, or they would run away from us. There was nothing in between. However, working at the café has helped us earn the respect we deserve. People appreciate the work we do and view us like any other citizen. That’s what matters.”

With a staff of seven, Bambai Nazariya is breaking new ground in the hospitality sector by having four trans persons and three individuals with disabilities on its team. The move is particularly significant in a country where the transgender population stands at five lakhs, with Mumbai alone home to about 50,000 trans persons according to the 2011 census.

Soniya and Piyu really thanked Diego, for the life changing opportunity he gave them. Diego Miranda, the founder of Bambai Nazariya, drew inspiration from his father’s belief in giving back to the community. Motivated by the desire to provide a platform for those deprived of equal rights, Diego embarked on this venture to foster inclusivity and equal opportunities.

Celebrity influencer Turbanmirchie, with over 189k followers on Instagram, recently visited the café, praising its unique concept and expressing admiration for the food. Turbanmirchie not only endorsed the café but also appealed to all his followers to support both the café and its groundbreaking concept.

In a significant move, Turbanmirchie also used his platform to request the government, on behalf of the community, to create employment opportunities for transgenders and ensure they receive equal rights. His advocacy adds a powerful voice to the cause, shedding light on the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities for all.

Bambai Nazariya not only serves delectable meals but also fosters a homely and hospitable atmosphere, aiming to redefine the traditional café experience. With its innovative approach, the café continues to make a positive impact on both its employees and the community it serves.
